Friday Follies

It’s been a weird week for me with on-site meetings every day but one and my son starting a new job.  As a result, I’ve allowed myself to ignore almost all my daily disciplines.  (I guess they’re really not “disciplines” if you allow them to lapse so easily.)  I need to build contingencies for my daily habits to make them resistant to schedule changes.  Ideas include:

  • Meal prep so I’m not eating off diet plan when away from home

  • Get mobile app of daily prayers and readings for phone or tablet

  • Get up even earlier to make up for lost exercise time

On the Nightstand:

Finishing The Mountain of Silence by Kyriacos Markides - this book was (strongly) recommended to me by my priest.  At first I though it was simply going to be the life of one of the Orthodox Monastics, but I discovered it to be a very rich discussion of so much of the spirituality of the Orthodox Faith told through the eyes of Father Maximos.  In addition, it provides some practices for the “rest of us” who are just beginning our journey into the Eastern aspects of Christianity.  Recommended for those who want a deeper look into the Orthodox faith

On the headphones:

Hydragate by S.A.W. - “S.A.W.” is Johannes Schmoelling, Kurt Ader, Rob Waters and Merz (though he doesn’t get a letter in the brandname).  I’m very much a fan of Schmoelling’s solo works since he left Tangerine Dream in ’86.  I wasn’t sure if adding more cooks to J.S.’ musical projects would dilute the quality, but this is a solid electronic album with a good balance of instrumentation and variety of themes.  Recommended for fans of the genre and good non-dance-non-trance EM.
